I’ve been meaning to write this post for a couple months now, so I am finally sitting down and excited to share our engagement story with all of you! We are in full planning mode, so Joe’s proposal feels like it was a year ago, but really it was about 3 months ago.

In order to share the full story with those of you who I don’t know personally, I’ll rewind for you to March 2017.

This is when I met Joe. Quick and sweet, we met online. That sentence is still weird to say, but that’s how it happened. It’s the way a lot of people meet these days and I’m not shy about it! Without Hinge, I wouldn’t have met my soon-to-be husband! This is back when the app connected you with potential matches through a mutual friend on Facebook. It all feels like a million years ago now, but one night Joe and I agreed to meet for a drink, after exchanging some sarcastic banter back and fourth on the app.

On the night of our first date, Chicago had a HUGE snow storm. We both have since admitted to one another that we each were on the verge of cancelling because of the weather, but something made us both suck it up and get to the bar that night. From that day on, we’ve been together.

Now, fast forward to this past Memorial Day weekend, well, actually the week before.

Joe had asked me if I wanted to go out to dinner after work on that Thursday, which wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. I said yes, without thinking of my schedule or what I had going on that day. Two days before he was planning on proposing, I told Joe that I had forgotten that I had a work event Thursday night and it that was a tequila tasting. He didn’t bat an eye and just said that it was okay, and he’d pick me up after and we’d just go to dinner somewhere around my office. I had absolutely no idea at this point what he was planning.

On Thursday, we texted as usual, while at work and our plan was set for dinner at some bar near my office. Hours later, after the work event, and fully sober, I texted Joe that I was ready to leave and I asked where he was.

Joe texted back and said “I’m actually not picking you up. There is a black SUV outside and a man named Aladdin is going to be picking you up.” Joe is a big joker, so I 100% thought he was kidding. To my surprise, I walked outside and Aladdin was waiting for me.

I got in the car and immediately thought “OMG what this is happening? Is THIS happening?”. While driving north on Lake Shore Drive my mind went in a million different directions, until we pulled up to The Ritz-Carlton.

For the past couple Christmas’s Joe and I have forgone presents for one another and had a staycation at the Ritz instead. It’s a little slice of heaven and a fun holiday tradition for us. So, as you can imagine, the Ritz-Carlton is our special place.

I was told to check in and head up to my room. As I walked in, Joe was standing there in a beautiful suite overlooking Lake Michigan. We both blacked out and all I really remember is that I think I said yes before he asked. But we are over the moon, and so freaking excited to spend the rest of our lives together!

We spent the next 2 hours face timing family and friends, screaming with excitement. We went to dinner at our favorite restaurant and had the best staycation ever that night the Ritz. The next day we packed the car and we spent the most perfect Memorial Day weekend at my family’s lake house celebrating. Joe couldn’t have surprised me more or planned a more perfect proposal. I’m so excited to start the rest of my life with my best friend and feel really lucky that Hinge was created.

I hope this was a fun post to read because it was my favorite one I’ve written! I’m looking forward (and terrified) to plan our wedding, but also excited to share some of it on Lake & Luxury! I hope you’ll follow along for the ride!
